LAMP Web Server Administration
In addition to web design and programming, we also specialize in the administration of LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) based web servers. What is LAMP, you may ask? LAMP is an acronym that stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP.
Why is LAMP Important?
LAMP comprises the basic framework of most of the web servers that we operate:
- Linux: While it may come in many different flavors (CentOS, Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, Arch, etc) its core technology remains the same. Linux is the Operating System that powers the web server.
- Apache HTTP Server: Apache is the software that runs on the Operating System that enables it to serve web pages over the internet.
- MySQL: Many dynamically-driven websites require databases to operate. MySQL is a relational database management system that provides your scripts access to storage databases.
- PHP: PHP is a programming language used to develop dynamic scripts. The "P" in LAMP can also refer to Perl, another popular programming language.
Why not other software?
LAMP has the benefit of not only being comprised of free software, but is also backed by extensive developer communities across the globe. Thus, the software is being constantly updated with bug-fixes, security patches and new features. In today's web market, you cannot afford to have out-of-date software running on your machines. With LAMP-based packages, not only is the software never out of date, but it is also incredibly easy to upgrade existing software installations, which again, cuts down on overhead.
